The Barometer
Shop was originally established over 30 years ago, but the present
owners, Verity & Colin Jones, acquired the business in 2003
when the founder of the shop decided it was time to retire. Verity
had been working in the business for some years, so already had
a good background knowledge of clocks and barometers. Colin, originally
from a mechanical engineering background, had spent the major part
of his career in the motor trade, but relished the prospect of actually
working with antiques instead of enjoying them just as a hobby.
Always interested in horology, having regularly serviced and maintained
the clocks at home, he is now just as passionate about barometers
and is regularly asked to share his knowledge by giving talks at
local meetings.
It is a true family business as Colin and Verity's youngest son, Kirby joined them in 2004 and plays an important role in delivering clocks to clients' homes and setting them up in situ, as well as helping to restore barometers.Kirby, Colin and Verity are all members of the British Watch and Clockmakers Guild so you are guaranteed service to the highest proffessional standards, whether you are buying or having restoration work undertaken. Colin and Verity's other three grown up children all take a keen interest in the business, and it is hoped that their two grandsons, Jacob and Oscar, who visit the shop every week, will carry the businesss well into the 21st century.
